FASHION: A Christmas In July

It’s the time of year when the heat outside can make people melt in the street. There’s got to be a better way to keep cool in the summer, but what to do? How about thinking of Christmas in July? That’s what happened at the Windsor Arms Hotel when they hosted a holiday preview with a range of brands wanting to be on everyone’s “it” list.

Starting off, – a top Canadian beauty destination – just opened a spa offering eco-friendly, head-to-toe treatments. For those wanting to lash out, Pretty in the City had a special offer of $25 for 25 minutes (which included false lashes and a makeup application inspired by current runway trends). For a traditional-with-a-twist salon (think art, music, hair), there was Day and Night from the people behind some of the buzziest salons in Toronto. For the guys, Arbonne had their Sky for Men (think fresh and clean) collection of scents, while their charity (Arbonne Angels) reminded others to help empower the next generation of youth; a portion of sales of select items go towards the organization.

For the fashion friendly, Fitzroy Boutique presented collections (including local accessories label, Hoda Designs) that cash in at under $200.  How do they get Australian in Canada at that price point is a secret.  Dear Frankie offered sexy lounge wear (their shape shifters keep everything where it should be).  The designers behind Label showed edge without sacrificing wearability, and Erin Tracy Designs had her signature jewellery (think fine silver and natural stones) for special occasion dressing.

To keep clothes looking their best, Rowenta (the original garment care provider of fashion weeks around the world, including Toronto, New York, Paris and London) had their Eco Intelligent iron (that is 25 per cent more efficient than regular irons).  Spend less on dry cleaning for the season!

By the end, there was no excuse not to snack on catering by Union restaurant (champion of the farm fresh, eat local movement).  After a nosh and a sitting break on a Modern Sensibility chair (that magically blended into the décor of the lush hotel suite) while taking in the scent of Arbonne’s Mandarin Pomegranate candle, it was time to go.  There’s no rest for the weary, especially when it’s 35 degrees outside.
