LIFESTYLE: Get Into The Heart Of Fashion
It takes a lot to get me out of the house on a Saturday. After working during the week, my weekends are designed to relax (and run the 1,000 errands I didn’t get to tackle from Monday-Friday). Yet, when it comes to a charitable endeavor, I’m there.
Presented by BMO Financial Group and hosted by Shops at Don Mills, Heart of Fashion is an event created to raise funds for North York General Hospital’s Foundation. Driving up to a large white tent in the Town Square of the Shops at Don Mills, it’s clear it was going to be a swanky night to remember.
Over 500 guests enjoyed drinks and dancing, a fashion show (featuring Shops at Don Mills retailers and Canadian designers – Fotini’s glamourous gowns were a crowd favorite), and entertainment provided by Canadian soprano Antonella Cavallaro – all hosted by the charming Rosey Edeh from The Morning Show.
The most entertaining part of the night was the live auction. Why? Beside it being an obvious case of one-upmanship, it was also the time when the men in the audience got a case of paddle-envy when bidding on the prize of the night: a trip to the next Victoria’s Secret show in London, UK. If their bid was too low, the prize might slip away, but if the bid was too high, their dates got suspicious.
After all of the excitement of the auction, it was time to turn up the volume and the bass on the dance floor. Guests started to take to the runway – and some even walked and posed – and even fresh pizza was delivered to keep everyone energized (not a single person complained of this unexpected surprise).
At the end of the night, $750,000 was raised, with proceeds bookmarked for the acquisition of innovative “seed localization” technology (an extremely precise way of pinpointing and removing small tumours in the breast) for North York General Hospital’s renowned BMO Financial Group Breast Diagnostic Centre (BDC), allowing it to become the first hospital in the GTA to offer the minimally invasive procedure.
