#SELOVES: The Beauty of Estee Lauder

While there are many people (particularly women) who love the beauty aspect of, well, beauty products, I have always been fascinated by the R&D. Call it curiosity, or just plain geekiness, but knowing how and why a product does what it promises has always peaked my interest.

When it comes to the production of efficacious beauty products, Estee Lauder is usually at the top of the list. They know their customers want – and expect – the best from them, and they comply with new products and updates of classics, year after year. And for fall, the time formulating their concoctions in the lab has been worth it.

The Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Foam removes makeup and pollutants, which rinses easily and leaves skin feeling clean, soft and refreshed. For those looking for something non-traditional, there’s the Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm. Applied over dry skin, the lightweight balm melts into a silky cleansing oil, then transforms with water into a milky emulsion that rinses easily for a clean, conditioned feel without any greasy residue – three different textures in one cleanser.

While not everyone owns a bottle of Advanced Night Repair, chances are most people know the iconic brown bottle. To stay a step ahead, Estee Lauder has introduced Advanced Night Repair Intensive Recovery Ampoules. Each ampoule is a precise dose – with new dual-action ChronoluxAI Technology – and help skin address those issues of irritation that can cause premature signs of aging (not to mention support the synchronization of skin’s natural nighttime repair, just like the original Advanced Night Repair).

Building on years of cutting edge research into the natural activity of Nrf2 (a protein naturally found in skin that supports multiple anti-aging pathways), the Revitalizing Supreme + Power Creme is part of a collection that features an exclusive moringa extract which supports skin’s natural activation of Nrf2 to “turn on” multiple anti-aging benefits, including anti-oxidant pathways (no red wine allowed!) and a prickly pear cactus extract nourishes and strengthens skin’s moisture barrier. The end result is skin that looks and feels deeply nourished and with the benefits of “bounce back” after regular use.

It should be noted this is no way a sponsored post; the products are just that good.

#SESTYLE: Hi-Shine, High Style

For a serious style upgrade this season, reach for something that’s hi-shine! We’re seeing patent in everything from skirts to jackets but right now, I am all about these accessories.

Patent has come a long way and the texture is a great way to add dimension to any outfit. I am in love with this patent mini-purse, which is big enough to hold the essentials yet small enough to be absolutely adorable. And can we talk about these black and white ankle boots? Ankle boots are everywhere this season, so why not reach for a pair that’s polished and patent?

Button-Up Shirt, Pink Tartan. Sweater, Urban Outfitters. Ripped Jeans, Rag & Bone. Sunglasses, Roxy. Choker Necklace, Topshop. Patent Mini-Purse, Nella Bella. Patent Ankle Booties, Jeffrey Campbell.

Fall is officially here (although with this weather, it may seem debatable), and many of us start reaching for the blacks, greys and muted colour tones. Why not add some texture to your outfit with a few patent touches? If you want to take your accessory game to the next level, swap your leather or canvas for something that’s hi-shine.

#SESTYLE: Uniqlo Comes To Canada

When it was first announced, the news was too good to be true. People were practically lining up, waiting for their chance live through the experience. This wasn’t about tickets to a Beyoncé concert or getting a reservation to the new Momofuku restaurant. No, no. The anticipation was for the opening of a Uniqlo store.

Founded in 1974, Uniqlo is a brand of Fast Retailing Co. Ltd., one of the largest apparel clothing companies in the world, with Uniqlo being Japan’s largest specialty retailer. With over 1,700 stores in 17 markets worldwide (locations across Asia, Europe and the US), this is the first one in Canada. Big news? Massive is more like it.

Located between Nordstrom and H&M at the CF Toronto Eaton Centre, spanning two stories and covering 27,400 square feet of space, the store features men’s and women’s clothing on the first and second floors, with a children’s section on the upper level.

With an ethos of creating clothing for everyone, there are your basics (t-shirts, chinos, socks and underwear), endless stacks of denim (in multiple cuts and washes), knits (merino wool and cashmere), with plenty of flannel and fleece options – the company’s research has shown that Canadians love these textures.

For the colder months, there are separates with Heattech technology (a special weave that traps heat, despite its fine gage) as well as Uniqlo’s incredibly popular down–filled outerwear. Thin and light, they claim to keep its wearer warm no matter how chilly it is. Let’s see if their reputation can keep locals toasty in Toronto’s brutal winters.

And while most items are designed to be wardrobe essentials, collaborations with stylish French tastemakers Ines de la Fressange (iconic Chanel model) and Carine Roitfeld (style star and former French Vogue editor) add a bit of savoir faire to one’s closet. A classic trench coat, perhaps? A beret – and baguette – is not required to feel like a Parisian.

The Eaton Centre store also featured the North American premiere of the Uniqlo U line (the 12 Us are to symbolize “U” can wear them 12 months a year). Under the helm of artistic director Christophe Lemaire, the line has an elevated design aesthetic. To quote them: “Every form made for function. Every element endlessly considered. Every design thoughtfully deconstructed, tested and distilled to its most essential and sophisticated.”

But, it’s not all about global reach. For the first time in Uniqlo’s history, they’re featuring local companies in a store (in this case, the Eaton Centre location), changing brands every two to three months based on a seasonal theme. With only a few Canadian locations currently planned to open, this is a way to bring a little bit of nationalism to an international retailer.

And with the current exchange rate, the Canadian merchandise is actually less expensive than the clothing in available in the US. Better get in line, because there are already people waiting to get in.

SELOVES: Feel Better Remedies

We’ve all done it, go straight for the medication or pain killers when you have a headach or run to the walk-in clinic  when your throat and chest starts to hurt. But, what about nipping that headache right when it starts or trying to prevent the pesky bug before it creeps up on you.

It’s all in the natural wellness these days and sure, there are so many things we can do to prevent a cold or feel better but it’s time to take it back to the basics. We all have our go-to remedies for feeling better, my personal favourite is using essential oils. But, we also can’t forget about the remedies that we not only grew up on but the ones that are still recommended by doctors today.

Here are a few home remedies you need to try that recently nursed me back to health without me having to take any antibiotics or medication.

Saje Wellness:
These natural products are a great way to feel better, faster. Recently I visited Saje and stocked up on a few of my favourite and effective products. Try the Saje throat spray and chest cold soothing balm to relieve your sore throat and chest congestion.

Warm Salt Water Rinse:
It seems simple, but it’s often forgotten. Try gargling and rinsing with salt water after every meal to cleanse your throat and help heal the pain from constant coughing. Rinsing with warm salt water will also help kill all bacteria and help you bounce right back to normal!

Hot Water with Lemon & Honey:
It’s the perfect homemade tea that can be done anywhere and in seconds. Try having a teaspoon of honey to soothe your throat, this is great especially if you’ve been coughing a lot and finding in painful to swallow.

These remedies may seem simple, but that’s the best part. Try them the next time you’re feeling under the weather to help you feel better naturally and faster!

#SESTYLE: Autumn Vibes

Fall weather is (finally) upon us and I could not be more thrilled! I love summer but I’ve had enough with the city smog combined with the scorching heatwaves. Aside from the changing colours of leaves and Pumpkin Spice Lattes, I’m ready for some fall fashion!

welcome-fall-fashionsfall-fashionfall-fashionautumn-vibesLightweight Duster, Simons. Short Sleeved Tee, Joe Fresh. Ripped Denim Jeans, Rag & Bone. Loose Fit Toque, H&M. Crossbody Purse, Coach. Pointy Toe Sneakers, Dolce Vita.

I’ve officially transitioned my wardrobe and one of my favourite pieces for this season is the lightweight duster. I still love my leather jacket and classic trench, but the duster fills that void between the two. Whether you’re running around the city or going out for dinner, the duster can be worn easily from day to night. Its longer length combined with a slouchy fit makes it the perfect piece to pair with any outfit. A lightweight duster is sleek, comfortable and ideal for layering, which is essential during this transitional season – especially when we know how temperamental Canadian weather can be.
