After just returning from a quick trip down south, I noticed that my hair and skin aren’t adjusting well to the dry Canadian air. With our temperamental weather comes temperamental skin, which currently feels drier than the desert. Aside from a plethora of serums and moisturizers, I’m also trying to nourish my skin from within. Right now, I’m reaching for my Thirsty Buddha coconut water.
I am obsessed with coconut water. Not only is it refreshing but it’s also packed with beneficial properties. I usually reach for my coconut water post-workout but with weather like this, it’s my hydration go-to. With its many vitamins and minerals, coconut water helps regulate the body temperature, alleviate dry skin and chapped lips and because it prevents dehydration, it can can increase your immune system, mood and energy levels. Coconut water is also yummy and low calorie, and with Thirsty Buddha you can also mix it up with their newest flavour, watermelon coconut water.
Keeping your skin happy in the summer months is easy, now comes the hard part. I’ve already swapped my “lightweight” moisturizer for my “ultra hydration” one, now I just have to reach for my coconut water to keep my skin hydrated and happy from within.

As winter approaches dinners out seem a little less appealing when you can easily pull things together in your very own kitchen using fresh ingredients in new and easy ways.
I love cooking with fresh ingredients, especially when I’m trying new recipes, whether I’m being creative in the kitchen or I saw it on Slice it’s always fun to try new things and prepping fresh ingredients. Most people try and avoid prepping their veggies by using chopping and slicing appliances, personally I love the prepping part of cooking. I’ve always enjoyed chopping up fruits and veggies but avocados have always been a tricky one for me. I’ve tried many of the tips and tricks like slicing and using a spoon to scoop it out, and yes, this is a great option that I’ve turned to many times but, I find it doesn’t get the avocado sliced enough and ends up making more of a mess.
We love Avocados from Mexico for not only being the world top avocado producers but for creating these great kitchen must haves that help make cooking with avocados so much easier. Weather you struggle with the pit, can’t cut through the peel or hate waisting even a little bit these kitchen supplies from Avocados from Mexico know how to handle and take care of Avocados the right way.
Avocados are a great source of fiber, low in sodium and rich in potassium which makes them the perfect addition to any meal, anytime of day. For recipes ideas on how to cook with Avocados visit AvocadosFromMexico.ca and be sure to tag #SELIVES. We love new recipes and stories!

Once the whether cools off, the desire to hibernate is stronger than ever (believe me, my spirit animal must be a bear), but instead of giving in, find something to keep you motivated. For me, that’s usually something fun and with a friend, or as I’d like to call them “accountability partners”.
I recently checked out MEC’s Outdoornation Think Outside Summit where MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-Op) encouraged attendees to submit ideas to get people outside. The program offers funding, mentorship and support to enable leaders to inspire others (and we even learned how to slackline!). The goal is to get people outside and get them moving.
Aside from the Think Outside Summit, MEC’s Outdoornation works with local collaborators to organize events like Chasing the Sunrise (which includes sunrise hikes, secret camp-outs and yoga sessions), Les Chèvres de Montagne (encouraging females to climb and camp) and Surf the Greats (where you can surf the Great Lakes). It’s a great way to keep active while also trying something new and maybe even outside your comfort zone. Either way, it’ll be an experience to add to the books. MEC Outdoornation, their collaborators and their events can be found at outdoornation.mec.ca.
Aside from MEC Outdoornation, MEC locations also offer activities (which vary depending on location) such as meet-up runs, digital navigation, bear awareness and you can even witness a polar bear migration – you just have to be in Mantioba for that one! Check out MEC’s events at events.mec.ca.
If you need some motivation, here it is! MEC is striving to get people active and their goal is to create events that “make it impossible for you to bail”. I don’t know about you, but I’m in. Instead of channeling your inner bear, sign yourself and maybe even your accountability partner, the adventurer in you will thank you for it.

If you’re looking for an evening of charity, glamour and themed parties the SickKids Scrubs in the City Charity Event is the must attend event of the year! It certainly isn’t your average charity ball, this event is one of the biggest annual themed parties of the year that will have you surfing the net and tearing apart your closets for the perfect theme appropriate outfit and believe me, if you don’t dress up you’ll be sure to stand out.
This year the event raised over $800,000 with an attendance of over 900. The event was held at the chic Evergreen Brickworks in Toronto, a perfect location that was transformed to resemble the streets of London for both your inner Royal or Rebel self. This years funds were raised for a new 3T MRI machine at SickKids to help make the MRI examination less stressful with a much quieter, faster and bigger machine.
With a great city comes even greater talent and although the actual British bands couldn’t make an appearance The Beatles and The Spice Girls Cover Bands certainly got the crowd going. From greatest hits to themed photos the bands added to the touch of London making the experience unforgettable from start to finish.

There are so many ways to show your mother you care, whether it’s through a gesture or a thoughtful gift it’s important to always make your mom feel appreciated both on this special day and everyday.
We often wonder about the best gift for one of the most important people in your life, and on Mother’s Day there are so many different things that she would love, but if you’re having trouble finding the right gift or she’s the woman who has everything, feeling appreciated and spending time together is always top on her list.

They always know what’s best and sure, maybe they aren’t always right but as humans, who really is. This weekend, appreciate your mom with the little things like morning coffee, family brunch and Skype dates, whether she’s near or far show mom just how much you care!
Our editors will be spending the weekend showing our mom’s how much they are appreciated everyday. From our families to yours, Happy Mother’s Day!
