Giving back is always a great way to show your love and appreciation to the world we live in. With so much happening in the world around us it’s hard to keep track of everyone in need of protection. TOMS always finds a way to bring awareness to so many different partnerships with their the One for One programs.
This past fall TOMS announced their partnership with the National Geographic Big Cats Collection, as a cat lover the choice to support this great program came easy as I began to read some of the recent statistics of Big Cats in the wild that are disappearing in the world around us. The National Geographic’s Big Cats Initiative has worked to reverse the decline through on-the-ground conversation and educational projects in Africa, Asia, North and South America.

Nat Geo Women’s Jaguar Classics, $70, toms.ca
Nat Geo Men’s Lion Paseos, $75, toms.ca
Nat Geo Big Cats Backpack, $108, toms.ca
The TOMS and National Geographic Big Cats Collection features a special edition line of footwear, sunglasses and backpacks for men, women and children ranging from $38 to $168 CAD. The collection features design elements representing big cats as well as iconic photography from the National Geographic’s image library. The TOMS One for One Animal Initiative program will drive awareness and funding for global animal protection for Big Cats and with our support and awareness we can come together to help minimize the dangers that Big Cats are facing in the wild.

As summer slowly approaches and I mean slowly, it’s time to bring out the flowy, comfortable threads that you were oh so sad to pack away last fall. I for one love nothing more than fall fashion, but when Summer comes along I must say, I can’t wait to show a little skin, tastefully of course.
This season, try ditching the crop top and wearing longer layers with your high waisted skirt, it looks great and it’s a perfect way to pair two classic trends, long layers and a high waisted maxi skirt.
Long Layer Top, $14.99, Winners // High Waisted Maxi Skirt, $24.99, Boohoo.com // Gold Heart Necklace, $1000, Tiffany & Co // Black and Blue Tortoiseshell Sunglasses, Edit by Jeanne Becker // Flats, $19.99, TJ Maxx
This simple look is extremely transitional and can be worn for just about any outing, day or night. I love this look as a transitional day to evening style taking you from work meetings, to patio drinks with friends, it’s both fashionable and functional for whatever Summer weather is thrown your way.

Sure, we know your iPod came with headphones. It’s highly likely your tablet came with a free pair too. Those ubiquitous white earbuds are on every other person riding the subway, walking through the business district, and can even be found on the occasional naughty cyclist. Aside from the fact that the design of the average earbud isn’t exactly awe inspiring, many pairs also fail to do what we need them to: noise cancel and deliver a crisp sound. That said, there are a few companies that are totally getting it right. Meet Molami and Urbanears, your entry into the world of conscious headphone design.
Urbanears, pictured above, is a Scandinavian collective who’s embraced the popular DIY ethos with their huge array of style and colour options. Every season new designs are rotated into the mix while others are retired, which makes Urbanears a truly interactive brand that constantly reinvents itself to suit it’s wearers. As trends in where and how music is taken in evolve, Urbanears seems at the forefront of what’s hip, making everything from commuter earbuds to swivel-ready, DJ focused headphones. Find a pair that suits your style in any colour you can imagine, from Rust to Grape.
Molami headphones are the most luxuriously designed headphones a girl could ask for. Built to suit the structure of the female face, they’re from the imagination of industrial designer Maria von Euler. She spares no frills when it comes to edginess and materials, completely breaking away from the traditional headphone format. Silk and chiffon headband style listening devices are her most unique pieces. The more traditionally designed headphones, sculpted with genuine leather, fold down when the listener doesn’t need them to create an interesting twist on the statement necklace. Between Urbanears and Molami there’s something for everyone, from the downtown skateboard kids to fashion conscious female. Turn your listening habits from mundane to marvellous with the burgeoning industry of fashion forward headphones.

p>Montreal brand KÄRV is back again to outfit Canadians in some of the hottest styles for Spring and Summer 2013. Taking notes from European style, the young and creative designers behind the brand are bringing forth again what we like to consider the perfect street style – what everyday individuals would wear and be comfortable in for a day out on the town.
The women’s collection offers plenty of variety in terms of colours and patterns, offering various skirts, capris and tops that are perfect for bright summer days. From subtle floral patterning on skirts, to off the shoulder tops and lace cutouts are ideal for adding a fun and sexy feel to your summer wardrobe without being overly seductive.
For the men, KÄRV has brought in vivid colour and ultra soft fabrics ensuring a breathable and airy feel from the hoodies to the t-shirts, perfect for keeping cool under the heat of the summer sun.
The offshoot series entitled BLACKÄRV offers men unique patterns and textures that are unique to the brand, meaning you’ll stand out while on the patio with friends
rather than blending into the sea of men wearing dress shirts
and ties that have become so typical nowadays. After all it’s your style, why blend in when you can stand out?

THE RUNWAY SHOWS
The week started with Lucian Matis’ offsite show at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Although it wasn’t officially a part of World Mastercard Fashion Week, it generated quite the crowd. And no wonder, set in the Grand Ballroom, it was a show of opulence from the location to the music to the beautifully designed collection.
From there, we rushed over to the tents to catch the first show of WMC Fashion Week, Korhani Home. From Asia to England, Korhani infused interesting themes and elements to their highly anticipated show.
Winners of last season’s Mercedez Benz Start Up competition, Danielle Martin and Pao Lim of MARTIN LIM present their collection at WMC Fashion Week. From delicate pastels to a pop of coral brights, MARTIN LIM does Modernism Couture for Fall/Winter 2012.
Inspired by earthiness and terrains, Line Knitwear boasted a strong selection of heavy knits which included metal accents and lambskin detailing. Josh Cawston dubbed this collection as, “protective luxury”.
SOIA & KYO
Along the lines of outerwear, comes
Kimberly Newport-Mimran delivered an elegant and sophisticated mix of tailored separates and jackets. Flared peplums were paired with feathered skirts and we saw many different variations of fur.
Homegrown designer, David Dixon, drew inspiration for his Fall/Winter 2012 collection from Alfred Hitchcock’s 1960’s horror film, The Birds. In both day and evening wear, Dixon offers rich textures in separates and floor length gowns.
Channeling the 60’s vibe. Joe Mimran of Joe Fresh included a number of coats and jackets in different silhouettes and pallets, from structured pieces to faux fur and leather. This collection includes a large variety of fabrics, and styles for both men and women making it versatile for everyday.
Melissa Nepton takes us on a nomadic journey with accessible sophistication for the urban career woman. In her Fall/Winter 2012 collection, Nepton featured subtle silks, warm wools and beautiful supple furs.
DARE TO WEAR LOVE CHARITY FASHION SHOW
Closing Day 5 of World Mastercard Fashion Week in Toronto is Charity Fashion Show, Dare to Wear Love. Celebrities including Jeanne Beker, Trish Stratus, Dina Pugliese, and Donisha Prendergast, granddaughter of music legend Bob Marley, walked the runway in support of the Stephen Lewis foundation, a community-level organization, which provides care and support to women, orphans, grandmothers and people living with HIV and AIDS.
After five hectic days of fashion, it all comes to an end. Now it’s time to catch up on sleep and food. Until next season…
